A Tribe Called Red – The Rez Tour Recap

“[…] recap video of the Rez Tour we did in August when we went to six reserves in Ontario to present the show that we perform around the world. The shows were free and all ages, and we also got to meet the local youth during workshops. It was truly special to be able to do this and to show the youth that they are important and that people just like them can succeed. It was important for us to be able to give back to our community that continue to be the inspiration for our music and especially to its youth that is currently facing a terrible suicide epidemic. It was a truly beautiful life changing experience that we will forever be grateful for. So here is the video, shot by our friend Jon Riera […]”  – Copied straight from A Tribe Called Red‘s latest Newsletter

It is so great to see musicians working toward real change in communities. These men really stick to their roots. This kind of positive energy gives me a lot of hope for the years to come.

Music | The Old-timers

The Old-Timers are the best Christian Punk band I have ever heard. Probably the only one I have ever heard… I discovered them a few days ago on Trent Radio and, although I do not identify with religion, this is the best contemporary religious music I have ever heard.

They don’t only sing about god! They sing about real issues, politics and the social issues we face. Homeless Friends is one of my favorite songs, also check out For the Love of Hippos!!!

They are PUNK A.F.

Contamination of Country Food + MEGA DAM

I am in class learning about the current issues connected to Indigenous Enviornmental Studies and I couldn’t help myself from laughing at HEAVY METALS in our soil deposited by MEGA DAMS.
I know… I am awful.

I’ve decided someone needs to start an Eco-Metal band called MEGA DAM.
Start a band with me or steal my idea and show me what you do with it.* This is me being super-serious.

* better give me cred, yo.

-Question- the West

I know the feels.

I don’t associate myself with much mainstream media anymore because I think it is all a big distraction from the real issues at hand.

“I don’t wanna watch television
I don’t wanna listen to the radio
I don’t wanna drown in American society.”

Problem is, because I choose to entertain myself with different types of movies , radio stations or new sources I’m starting to find it really hard to communicate/relate to most people my age.

Why do you think it is so easy to get sucked into mainstream media? Why is it so believable?

I am reading Evelyn Waugh’s Scoop for English class and it is causing new discussions for what/who determines mainstream reality and ‘news’. It is interesting to reactions when people realize that most of what they know about the current situation of our world has been documented and constructed by people who have under-lying motives at hand.  Industry, Politics, Consumer-culture.

What I mean to say is, QUESTION what information you are given. Don’t be afraid to read CBC or underground news sources like Rabble to get a second or third opinion on a matter. Sometimes newspapers/musicians/filmmakers are muzzled by other powers that do not want the general public to know everything.

So question things, my friend.

& I don’t know about you, but I don’t wanna drown in [Western] society.

The Boat and the Bomb (2005) – Full Length Documentary

A documentary about the sinking of Greenpeace’s Rainbow Warrior in 1985 on their way to protest France’s nuclear testing in the Pacific.

I am doing a presentation about this historic event in class today. I thought it may be important to know some of the history behind groups like Greenpeace and their efforts for a better, more sustainable world.

What a Wonderful World

Apologies for the graphic image in my last post. Without further adieu, a contradiction to the things that are really happening out there.

Learn about Columbus Day

Something to think about this Columbus Day… and every other Columbus Day.

Do you really want to celebrate this genocide? Slavery? Assimilation/extinction of cultures?

WARNING** GRAPHIC*

– A reading from Bartolome de las Casas’ journal about the wrongdoings committed to the Taino people of the island of Hispaniola during Columbus’ reign.  This is TRUE history and by celebrating Columbus day, these are the kind of things we are blindly glorifying.

SEEDS ARE ALWAYS FREE

Took a walk around town and I got some Echinacea (Purple Cone Flower), Columbines and Cosmo seeds by dead-heading plants in my neighborhood.

My Nonna also preserves tomatoes for sauce all year round. When she took Basil from our gardens, I shook out the stalks to get seeds for next year’s plants.

Echinacea Seed Heads.

Collecting seeds for next year’s plants is so easy. I’ve got myself a binder with all the seeds in different baggies labeled with the year, what it is and where I got them from. Here I am, starting my own seed library!

Nature’s bounty.

PRETTY FRIGGING AWESOME.

Peeing Feels SO Good!

Don’t be ashamed, everybody pees! Admit it.

Want to know why I think peeing feels so great? (more…)
