DO SOMETHING

The antidote to apathy is not what you think…

Check out this short video about some of the barriers our society perpetuates re: community involvement, activism, and having those tough, much needed conversations.

A really great talk! The best part? If you’re from Ontario, you might feel the info directly speaks to your experiences.

In New York there are Six Nations Against Fracking – Documentary

Please click-through and watch the video on Vimeo!

Be mindful of the actions you partake in and if those actions help to continue life, or destroy it.

2 years after this film was made, fracking is still an issue. Do you think we will ever open our eyes and begin to make vital changes? Or is the future too far away to plan for…

How to make your own Creepers

♫ you can never have too many platform boots ♫

I have yet to try this one… what a great way to give a new life to the flipflops hanging around at home.

Want to have your own pair of these amazing sneaker Creepers?

INGREDIENTS:
  • Flat Lace ups shoes- Could be Vans, Converse or high tops –High Tops provide more support for your ankles) ,
  • Three pairs of rubber thongs, give or take depending on how high you would like your creepers. You may find that you will need a larger size of thongs than what would you normally wear.
  • Shoe glue – I used 2 tubes.
  • Scissors
  • Large serrated knife
  • Ink pen or pencil
  • Plasti-Dip liquid rubber paint
  • Sponge paint brush
  • Rubber bands
  • Rubber Gloves- So you dont get glue all over your hands

Step 1: Clean the Shoes

  • Ensure that before you start making the shoes that they are thoroughly cleaned, Use Mentholated Spirits or nail polish remover to do so. (It’s essential to make sure everything is clean as dirt and moisture prevent glue from making a secure bond.)

Cherry Blossoms in High Park!

Zip-a-dee-doo

Good morning universe!

♥ Today I am off to High Park to see the lovely Sakura trees ♥

… Haven’t seen them and live in Toronto?!?

Take a day to bike, walk or fly!
Pack a picnic – don’t forget to take your trash with you –
+ spend the day breathing in some O(xygen) and hugging some trees.
I’d suggest going before Saturday, wind might blow the lovely flowers away.

*UPDATE* Toronto Hydroburgers

Results weren’t ideal for Toronto’s Hydro customers or environmental advocates.

18 out of 45 City Councillors voted in favour of ‘POLLUTER PAYS’

This would have gained the city of Toronto $1.6 million by charging hydro companies for their pollution instead of giving them discounts and allowing pollution fees to be passed down to hydro customers.

22 Councillors including the Mayor voted against full cost recovery.

They decided to allow corporate polluters to get discounts on the clean up costs associated with water treatment. This means hydro customers are still paying  double for clean up fees.

See how your Councillor voted:

Interesting how BOTH burger brains voted against making corporations pay money to the City. Notice Rob Ford’s conflict of interest …

Fracking our lives away.

Gasland 2 is the sequel to an American documentary that focuses on hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and what happens to regular people because of the gas industries we support everyday. If you drive a car, heat your home, own a cellphone OR eat food that doesn’t come from your backyard WATCH THE DOCUMENTARY.

Do you know there are places in America that don’t have any clean water because of fracking?
Kids who can’t swim or play in ponds near their home because of the chemicals irresponsibly released into their water supply?

Dimock, Pennsylvania’s water is flammable because of improper disposal of waste water from drilling. There is gasoline and methane in their drinking water!

Flaming hoses… in Texas, too!

Fracking in the neighborhood doesn’t just manifest itself in water. Chemicals blowing in the wind can cause health problems (more…)

Toronto’s water is getting WA$TED

On antibiotics and chemical cleaning solutions leaking into our sewage (and drinking) water.
Awful? Totally.

What’s more awful is that the majority of it is coming from law-breaking companies that rely on OUR TAX MONEY to clean up their mess. This city must be drinking some hardcore, homemade brew-skis if they are not realizing all of this lost revenue.  Our TTC fare was raised by the lovely mayor so that “we could get some real progress on the joke we call ‘transit” but what I don’t understand is why they are ignoring the big boys and girls sleeping in the bathtub.
