In New York there are Six Nations Against Fracking – Documentary

Please click-through and watch the video on Vimeo!

Be mindful of the actions you partake in and if those actions help to continue life, or destroy it.

2 years after this film was made, fracking is still an issue. Do you think we will ever open our eyes and begin to make vital changes? Or is the future too far away to plan for…

Mia Hug + How 2 Erasure Poem

Erasure poetry is super-easy and really fun to do! I find it helps when I have writer’s block because the words are already there, I just need to make them something new.

In the Middle of a  Hug

by Cathy Casper
erased by Arisetotrash

just now a halo hugs the moon,
and the earth hugs the moon to her side
the mountains hug the mesas holding them close to the river
while the mesa hugs the valley close about the town
and the deer who can’t hug, touch muzzles
chickadees hug plum tree
branches between their tiny feet
as you will hug me when I open the door
of all the ways to hold close, I treasure this four-armed hug
but when you go, and hugs turn into waves, we need not feel alone
the moon
k [.]nows [T]that the Earth will hold her forever in their turning
so, hold this
aware [,] ness in your heart
we are
always in the middle of a hug

This is what In the Middle of a Hug became after I remove what I erased. For my youngest cousin:

Mia

Just a hug, and the earth hugs her back.
That Earth forever aware,
always in the middle of a hug.

A Message To Canadians

For generations, people living on this land have been silenced.

Bill C-51 is a new form of censorship. It is a violation of human rights resulting from political dominance – but this is not a new thing.

Indigenous people have been physically and mentally hurt since white people got here. They were enslaved, murdered, purposefully infected with small pox blankets and forced out of their homelands.

Years of genocide. Secrecy. Lies in our history books.
Absolute disrespect for the hospitality and knowledge offered to us by the people who lived here first.

Is this a Canada you are proud of?

I am so happy -and privileged- to live on this land.
We have it incredibly good in Canada BUT, it isn’t good enough.

We need to value the land and the peoples who were here before any of us came to colonize, brutalize and economize. When I say this, I am including the water, sky, soil, plants and animals.

I value the belief systems of Indigenous peoples and do not understand how this ignorance is still happening. I want to learn how to honor and learn the ways instead of ignoring and disrespecting their values. I want to be an ally because I know if anyone can help the stupid white people out of the mess we’ve gotten into, it is the people who were here first.

HEY! Step back and breathe air. Hear the crows calling?

I am not proud of the way Canada is run.

Why are we extracting resources with no consideration for the life and land we are impacting?

Why do we care more about dollar$ than community?
How can I live happily knowing my life is run by rich white men who have no consideration for the immeasurable daily struggles people face?

Why are women being silenced everyday by enforced sexual stereotyping, abductions, misogyny? We are healers, warriors and the bringers of LIFE. How are 2000+ (‘unofficial’) deaths of women being ignored?!?

What can WE do to change this?

– BE THE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE –
Think freely, dangerously, critically about everything you experience.

We need the people we hurt to teach us how to love our land again.  As “Canadians”, we have forgotten.  I can only hope we are forgiven.

We are all indigenous when you consider that we are born on this earth -OF the earth- WE ARE THE EARTH… so why do we dehumanize our sisters and brothers?

I’m asking for help.
Understand one another. Appreciate what you have.  Why take more than you need? Consider all aspects of life on this earth when making decisions. This isn’t about you.

Consider my thoughts because I am speaking from the heart.

Right now I am spending a weekend in Ottawa attending Truth and Reconciliation meetings about residential schooling that happened as recently as 18 years ago. It is hard for me to hear what has happened to people like you and me.

I acknowledge that I am on un-surrendered land and I thank you, sisters and brothers for all this land has offered -and will continue to offer- to me.

2015 Year at a Glance [Taurus] -Erasure poem-

Earth, your roots are hungry.
Spirits tug at you, longings challenged by necessities.
It’s better to feel deep wisdom direct your desires.

Plan to be resourceful with what you have
— inner wealth is accumulated stuff.

Throw yourself into a dream of possibilities.
You being the rock,
Restructure consistency.

Flashes of insight reveal issues you buried from other lives.  Will the heart into childlike spirits.

inwardly rich. You are a dance in years to come.

“The best way to manage waste is to
not produce it at all”

Keeping Our Earth Green by Nancy F. Castaldolandfill_gas_conversion2

It is impossible to absolutely stop producing garbage/waste.
But you can become aware of how much waste enter our landfills each year.

Many things can be done to reduce the amount of waste you contribute:
Make art! Recycle! Donate unwanted items!
Look for objects that use minimal packaging! Think twice before upgrading your electronics!
Buy re-usable products like bags, water bottles, cutlery and feminine products!

Get creative.  Inspire others. Live for today and tomorrow.

682 Plastic Beaches

8 Million Metric Tons of Plastic Dumped Into World’s Oceans Each Year – NationofChange.

Just finished reading this article on Nation of Change (independent journalism) about the excessive amount of waste in our oceans and how much of it we can’t even see.

Did you know that we have a series of ‘plastic islands’ aimlessly floating in our oceans due to individuals and large companies dumping waste into the water?

It’s incredible how much plastic actually exists on this earth.

Plastic is everywhere! In your clothing, wrapped around your food and in Canada it has even become money!  Most plastic does not break down. Those that do will take years to degrade and even then tiny micro-pellets will still exist. The amount of plastic on the surface of our oceans and beaches is only what we can see. There are hundreds of plastics underneath the ocean floor and broken down in creatures’ bellies that we will never know about.

Most people take plastic for granted and don’t think much of what it is.

Watch this video from Brentwood Plastics to learn more. He talks about what plastic is made of, and the biodegradability of some plastics:

There are a lot of things we can do to limit the amount of plastics we use. Here are 3 examples that are super easy:

  • STOP USING PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES  – buy a reusable water bottle and take it with you! You will help save hundreds of water bottles a year. It drives me mad when I see people taking water bottle around their house when they have fully functional glasses that can be washed a reused infinitely.
  • BE A SMART SHOPPER – Think about how much packaging you are paying for. Do you need the mushrooms in the plastic tubs, wrapped in plastic? A lot of toys, electronics and other things come with unnecessary packaging. We buy it just to throw it away.
Next time you shop, choose products that are modest about their packaging.
  • RE-USABLE SHOPPING BAGS FTW!! – Seriously. If you carried a roll-up bag in your purse or coat pocket, you could save so many plastic bags from going into the garbage. Less of them will be produced! Which means less water and less oil wasted on recycling these unnecessary objects. If you do have to use a plastic bag, reuse it! You can use plastic bags to carry your lunch or your dog/cat waste or as a liner for your green bin/garbage. Don’t throw away plastic bags, they can always be recycled.

It’s crazy that you can only see the front of this man’s cart. We don’t even know how long it is… SO MUCH PLASTIC!

All this talk about plastic gets me thinking about a really good album… well, it gets me thinking about a lot of things. Some of them are depressing, some make me angry, and others make me hopeful and itching to make a change. It makes me want to share my love for the plants and trees and water and air with everybody!

We don’t need to live life always wanting more, never being satisfied with what we have. I love this life and believe me, mine is in no way perfect. I am a low-income citizen in a big city. I don’t have much, but I have love and knowledge and passion for the things I believe in. It’s better than any material objects I could own because in the end, those are not me and will never become me. they are impermanent and can be tossed away or broken.
I am me.
I am capable of loving every living thing on this earth and truly treating them as they deserve to be treated.

What are you capable of?
