The antidote to apathy is not what you think…

Check out this short video about some of the barriers our society perpetuates re: community involvement, activism, and having those tough, much needed conversations.

A really great talk! The best part? If you’re from Ontario, you might feel the info directly speaks to your experiences.

KAIROS Thanksgiving Message + Blanket Exercise

Mass Blanket Exercise on Parliament Hill during the Truth and Reconciliation Commission‘s Calls to Action.

I should have shared this before Thanksgiving, but it is always important to be thankful for what we have. Everyday! Not just on holidays.

I am gracious for being able to travel to Ottawa this summer so I could hear the stories of survivors at TRC. I feel like things are changing and there is hope for the future. Being a part of this video makes me feel like I’m part of this history! What an honor.

Created by KAIROS, the model of the blanket exercise is used to gain perspective on the true history of Canada; how colonization affected the people who lived here first.

As a Canadian who is living on the land where many consider genocide to have occurred, I think the blanket exercise humbled me incredibly. History books in school lied to me.

This is a very quick activity and is free to use by anyone, anywhere (offices, classrooms, community events etc.) it has even been adapted to be used with grades 1 and up.

Windows 10; Creepy or Connected?

When the free upgrade for Windows 10 launched, I jumped.
I thought it was a good thing to get the free upgrade and in my stupidity I did not consider that I was the guinea pig for bug fixes, updates and discovering new flaws to the operating system.windowsmessenger

What started my general dislike for this system is having to get a Windows Live account. It’s been YEARS since I used MSN!!
(I also thought it strange to have to LOG IN to my computer using an online account)

When I read the Terms & Conditions I learned about all these ‘security features’ and things Microsoft learns from your computer.
-*ALWAYS READ THE TERMS & CONDITIONS*-

I felt pretty uncomfortable with Cortana and immediately searched for ways to disable all features that can collect information such as my name, nicknames, calendar events and more. It took a lot of work and I had to do some digging to modify the system in a way I felt was safe and maintained my privacy.

After a lot of thought, I reverted back to my original operating system because there were far too many things about Windows 10 that I did not like including everything mentioned below.

GO GREEN #31

Go online and learn more about endangered species. Research why the organism is endangered and how you can help.

#32 is very similar.  I pulled up some photos of the endangered species I was drawn to.

Use this to get you started: IUCN Redlist  & WWF Endangered Species Directory

GO GREEN #1

Become an informed consumer. Research green claims made by companies you regularly support/buy from. Ask questions like:

Do they test on animals? What kind of energy do they use to power their factories? Is your tuna dolphin-friendly?

Then find out the answers!

Free thinkers are dangerous, especially to big companies. Once you can make informed decisions about what you want to support with the purchases you make, you will become their worst nightmare. I promise.
